Good evening everybody,
So we are two weeks in and have covered a lot of ground already for sure.
Have a look at the PPs we have used so far (via e mail and Moodle) to remind yourself what we have discussed.
Don't forget to sign in to comment...and access the blog using Google Chrome for likely success.
So, to get you acquainted with the nuances of blog commentary, here are a series of questions for you to consider. Answer as many as you wish, but do answer at least one please. Anything goes, nobody judges in our learning space!
- How are you feeling about this Module, knowing what you will be doing for the assessments (see PPs 1 and 2 if you have forgotten!)
- Are you enjoying the mix of lecture and group / self reflection activities in the sessions? (listening to the views of your peers)
- How are you enjoying the transition into University study?
- Will you be tempted to listen to different podcasts / read more blogs as a result of taking this Module?
- If you were selling (in the persuasive sense) the podcast you chose for week 2, what would make us want to listen to that?
- Any other comment you think would be helpful for some reflection on your learning.
Hi, Mark!
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited about this module since I've always wanted to start my own podcast, and have been wondering about how it all works. I love how creative and practical the module is as well. I'm also pleased we have in-person lectures since it makes the sessions much more fascinating and its easier to engage :)
its me Noor, for some reason it wont let me put my name.
DeleteHi Noor, I was going to ask who anonymous was there, ha ha. Yes, I must confess, the sessions are going well as I try hard to make sure everybody has an equal voice. Thank you for your continued engagement, it’s refreshing. The class is certainly working well so far. See you Wednesday and have a great weekend. Mark
ReplyDeleteHi Mark,
ReplyDeleteI’m enjoying the course at this point in it, the assessments are quite different to my other module so I think it will be quite interesting to complete them. The mixture between lecture and reflection activities is also quite refreshing. The transition from High School to University study was a bit of a jump but I think I’ve (mostly!) got the hang of it now. All in all, I’m looking forward to what's next in this module
ReplyDeleteHi Luke, some great reflective commentary in there. Finding your feet in a new environment can certainly bring some challenges, but it sounds like you’re really embracing it, so bravo to you. I guess a module like this will suit the eye and ear to some, but not to everybody, but that’s educational life for you! The engagement has been great and that’s always a boon to me and how I like to teach. Have a restful evening and I look forward to seeing everybody again tomorrow for round 3! All the best, Mark
Hi Mark,
ReplyDeleteThis module has already encouraged me to read more blogs. Since I am new to the country and will only be here for a few months, I have started reading a travel blogs to help me compile a list of places to go and things to try. I will be going for a quick trip to Prague next week and now have a lot of fun but strange things on the to do list. I have also found that since moving to a bigger city, I have a lot more time to spend listening to podcasts while walking and I am excited to get more recommendations throughout the course!
Best,
Aida
Hi Aida, that’s great to hear! Podcasts and blogs for your trips could be great “travel companions” for you! Prague is wonderful, I’ve been many times. I particularly like the Jewish Quarter and would recommend a walk round there for sure. I’m glad this module has helped already, who knew?! I’d also recommend you click on the top 100 podcasts and blogs links on this blog (right hand side). Variety is the spice of life after all. I was looking back at my journals, and it was 1993 I went to Pittsburgh by the way, nearly 30 years ago, which I can scarcely believe! Great comments, see you tomorrow. Mark
DeleteHi mark,
ReplyDeleteI'm really excited for this new module as it's something new, I don't have much experience with creating podcasts or blogs and so this will be a new learning experience for me. I quite like that the assessment requires some creativity which isn't too common in other assessments, So i'm really looking forward to this module.
Daniah
Hi Daniah, thank you for your positive words, really helpful. Yes, there’s a good mixture of creative thought, the theory behind what we are doing and flexibility of research topics too. We will hear about some of those ideas tomorrow when we look at the concept of pitching, amongst other things, as always! Great stuff and I look forward to working with you all again tomorrow. All the best, Mark
DeleteHi Mark!!
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I’m stoked with this class. Everything we talk about is so interesting and I love to listen to everyone else’s input in the subject matter at the time. The transition from high school to uni work hasn’t been easy – very challenging, really. I’m super negative so I always have a hard time adapting at first with things, but going steady is the best bet! I’ve definitely been checking out other different podcasts since our homework from last time as well. Frankly, I don’t know if i could really sell the podcast I chose. It’s about two people who are part of a very niche side of internet culture and what they talk about wouldn’t be that interesting to everyone.. So I’m not very sure.
Anyways, all this talk about blogs almost makes me want to start one of my own as like a hobby or something, haha!! But yeah, overall, I’ve been enjoying our lessons very much. Thank you so much!
DeleteMorning Heaven, some great detail in your comments there, well done. The transition to HE can be challenging, but I think a steady approach as you say is sensible. I’m delighted that you’re enjoying the classes and the shared learning community we have fostered, it makes things a little more interesting for sure. The good news is that you will be putting together a mock blog in the next few weeks before the real one, so an ideal way to prepare for your hobby one, which I hope you’ll follow through on. I’m sure you’ll get a lot out of creating one. See you this afternoon, Mark
Erin’s feedback, as per her e mail to me this am - “I was just going to say the module has been really interesting so far and like Noor I am enjoying the in-person classes. Looking forward to class today, see you then!” Thanks, Erin
ReplyDeleteMy response - thanks Erin, that’s great that you feel engaged with the classes and I hope that continues as we progress through the weeks and into both assessments. See you this afternoon and thanks for your reflections. Best, Mark
Hi Mark,
ReplyDeleteI must say I was sceptical coming into this class on whether or not I’d like it, but ever since setting foot in it for the first time I’ve been intrigued to learn more and have remained engaged throughout, mainly due to your effort towards us, so thank you for that. I’m looking forward to the assessments as they are relatively different to anything I’ve done in the past. The jump from High School to University has been difficult but is getting easier with time. This module has encouraged me to listen to more podcasts already, so I’m looking forward for what is to come. Murray
Thanks Murray, this is helpful and provides a good overview into how you are learning and progressing. I am glad you are listening to more podcasts too, which means that the learning is indeed active! All the best, Mark
DeleteHi Mark
ReplyDeleteReally enjoying this module so far as it seems to incorporate the aspects of Mass Communications that I am interested in. I love podcasts so it is nice to explore topics within podcasting. I enjoy the module as I feel it is a more so creative one compared to my other modules.I look forward to the rest of the trimester.
Gregor
Thanks Gregor, I am glad you are enjoying the flexibility this module affords us and you are contributing very well to my classes, thank you. All the best and stand free! Mark
Deletehave been a little nervous to attend as i've never really worked with blogs and i was afraid i'd not be able to focus for the full three hours (adhd brain here haha) but from what i've heard so far i'm excited to see what we cover and what i can learn!
ReplyDeletetj
Hi TJ, thank you and welcome to the module, nice to meet you. The trick is to work at your own pace and reflect on the previous PPs and blog info. Thanks for your comment, all the best, Mark
DeleteHello, Mark
ReplyDeleteI am thrilled to be in this course, I have really enjoyed it so far. The vibe is top tier.
Hi Autumn, I will most definitely take some top tier feedback, thank you! Glad you are enjoying your learning. Hope you enjoyed the session today, I know I did! Mark
DeleteThis module interests me quite a lot, i have been interested in and listened to podcasts and such in the past and im sure this will increase throughout the trimester. The step up from high school workload to uni has been very difficult especially since i took a gap year however i welcome the challenge
ReplyDeleteKian
DeleteHi Kian, great words and lovely to meet you today and thank you for your contribution. I am glad that you will continue to listen to more podcasts. Try and get a sense of the structure of them, which will be helpful when you come to putting yours together. Best, Mark
DeleteI enjoy the teaching style of this module, its refreshing to feel leave class feeling as you've explored your own thought processes rather than taking on someoneelses.
ReplyDeleteLast week encourgered me to brunch out on my podcasts choices as i've been stuck in a cycle of listening to the same 5 or 6 for the last few months!
Hi there, that is very kind of you to say that. A lot of that energy is two way though, as it cannot work any other way I would argue. I cannot ask for any more than you are reflecting on the learning after the class, this I like. I'm so glad you now have a wider podcast repertoire, but don't discard the old favs completely, ha. All the best, Mark
DeleteToday may have been my first day in a lesson, however, I am immediately intrigued with the content and delivery of this module. I'm looking forward to seeing what comes of it.
ReplyDeleteHi Alex, and glad to meet you today. Thankfully you are feeling better too. I am glad that you were instantly hooked, must be doing something right! I too am looking forward to seeing how we all progress in the journey of blogs and podcasts. See you next week for Pitching Wednesday. Mark
Deletegood afternoon mark!
ReplyDeletei am feeling good about this module so far as i've been enjoying the classes and found the workload very manageable, thinking about assessments right now is scary so i'm trying not to but i'm sure by the time they come round i will be prepared. the mixture of lectures, individual and group activities keeps things entertaining and it's great to hear others' point of view. the transition to studying at uni compared to high school has been surprisingly smooth but i'm still not entirely used to the amount of self discipline required sometimes. typically i don't find myself listening to podcasts or reading blogs but after last weeks class i have been more encouraged to do so.
emily :)
Hi Emily, you got there with the feedback; your perseverance has been rewarded! This sounds like you have a manageable time management in place, which always appeals to me, as you all know by now. For sure, groupwork is vital, in my opinion, to a healthy learning environment. Sometime we are all taken out of our comfort zone. You are contributing very well to the sessions. Self discipline huh, well, that is something for you to figure out, but you are considering it, which is more than half the battle in my book. Glad you are listening to more podcasts and reading blogs, willingly. All the best, Mark
DeleteFeeling good and excited to start
ReplyDeleteI transitioned from college rather than school so finding it a bit more manageable than others might.
I already listen to a couple podcasts but might read more blogs after this.
Currently gathering ideas for my pitch next week
Thanks Lauren, if you’ve read the slides from PP1, you’ll know I lecture predominantly at college, so understand both FE and HE well! I’m glad you’re now on board, and I look forward to hearing your pitch. The trick is to listen to more podcasts and read more blogs, gathering ideas as to how you want yours to sound and look. Thanks for contributing to this thread and I’m looking forward to meeting you on Wednesday. You navigated my instructions perfectly! All the best, Mark
DeleteHi Mark! Feeling excited about the module. Don't really listen to podcasts alot but starting to indulge myself more in them recently as well as getting a better feel about blogging. Feeling a bit more inspired about the pitches as well :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Halim, this all sounds wonderful to me. Keep listening and reading, as that’s what helps with getting a feel for the ‘formula’, if you will. I’m glad you’re feeling inspired, music to my ears! See you on Wednesday and thanks for posting your thoughts. Look out for an e mail tomorrow with some extra information to help structure the pitches. Best, Mark
Deletehi mark, i am looking forward to pitching my idea for the blog and very interested to hear everyone else's too. I have been enjoying the time in class and also taking part in discussions as i've never really read blogs before!
ReplyDeleteMorning “unknown”. Could you perhaps just signpost who you are please? I’m delighted to hear this, as we should always share ideas and opinions, which is very much part of my teaching philosophy. I’m glad you’re enjoying the sessions with me. Hopefully you’ll catch this and let me know who you are. See you Wed and good luck with the pitch. Best, Mark
DeleteHi Mark, I'm excited about this module and have been enjoying it so far. I've always had the intentions to start listening to more podcasts and now I have. I'm intrigued to hear everyone's blog ideas and looking forward to pitching mines. I've been struggling with the transition into university and managing my time but am definitely finding ways to improve. Many thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Hannah. By listening and reading more, you definitely pick up some tips I would argue. I’m glad you’re improving on time management, it’s so important! Best of luck tomorrow and see you when you’re able. All the best, Mark
