Although social media is an amazing platform for connecting with people and staying in touch, I often find it can lead to isolation and loss of touch without realising. As so many of us post online about what we are up to and achieving, I catch up with people's lives through viewing their content online. This leads me to reaching out less to my friends I think as I feel less of a need to personally message them as I feel as if we're already "caught up". It has this isolating effect without even realising. Not sure if this is just a me thing.

Evening Sarah, I totally understand what you’re saying. That inadvertent isolation can certainly be a problem as you rightly say. I guess the thing to remember for us all, is that we shouldn’t make assumptions about people’s well-being, and try to check in more with our friends. I think we all should take heed of that advice. Thanks for posting, really insightful comments you’ve made there. Mark
DeleteFrom Jack - I believe that social media and checking ‘phones in the UK is a large issue now. This is an addictive platform that people cannot control and cannot limit themselves to it, as everything revolves around social media. I think it will have a large impact on many people's mental health in the future and already does now.
DeleteMark - I agree and you’ve hit the nail there with your thoughts. I’m glad it hasn’t been a problem in my classes yet. I see the tech. as being helpful in many ways, but if / when learners choose to login as a matter of disengagement, then all educators have to make a decision on ‘rules’ within their learning spaces I guess. Great stuff Jack and thank you. Mark
